In India people are crazy about two things, Bollywood and Cricket. Excel Media and Entertainment & Amazon Prime’s Inside Edge has both! You can’t expect anything more than this to spend your weekend on binge watch. Because you get a double dose of entertainment in a single ticket and that’s why Inside Edge series has created a good fan following in India. The third season lives upto the hype and delivers a cracker-of-a-show with a thrilling finish. It’s just like a cricket match, there are twists, there are jumpy moments, thrill, fun, suspense, sports, politics, fixing and what not. Inside Edge 3 is three times fun actually. It tries to protect a few things while exposing other scams and this risky gamble makes it a fantastic watch. Director Kanishk Varma brings forth new mysteries and new game plans both on and off field that will keep you on the edge of your seats.
The third season of Inside Edge has some new characters making the gamble more interesting. As they promised, the stakes are higher in Season 3, as ‘the game behind the game’ becomes more intriguing and a personal vendetta takes the centre stage. It’s not just about the personal rivalry but also about backfire and the struggle to recover from that, emotionally. On the other side, the game of cricket is plagued but we have doctors who want to cure it. That’s not it, there is political and social propaganda to make a few more headlines in this big chaos. At the end of it, what awaits you is a big surprise and a thrilling finish. Karan Anshuman creates an engaging world of cricket, betting and personal rivalry and all three things fit in perfect size. The 10 episode series is long but definitely not boring. It has surprises in every episode and new questions that are answered subsequently.
Inside Edge 3 has a great cast. Great by all means. Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chadha, Tanuj Virwani, Aamir Bashir, Sayani Gupta, Sapna Pabbi, Akshay Oberoi, Sidhant Gupta and Amit Sial every single character plays a vital part. Considering the long runtime and enough screen space, it’s difficult to name top performances but yes Vivek Oberoi, Aamir Bashir, Richa Chadha and Sayani Gupta are surely table toppers. Even the supporting cast adds more to this powerhouse of acting. It seems that they all were competing to topple each other but the results came out so positive that it lifted the entire thing up.
What works on an extreme level for Inside Edge is that they brought the India vs Pakistan thing this time. We all know that India vs Pakistan is not just a great Cricket match but it’s an emotion. Inside Edge manages to cash in on that emotion and at the same time keeps the religion called ‘Cricket’ considerably clean. The background score during those match sequences will increase your heartbeats. However, the cinematography could have been better, especially while showing those cricketing shots. Every Cricket lover in India likes to watch cricketing shots from beautiful angles and frames but Inside Edge 3 lacks delicacy there.
Kanishk Varma’s marathon storytelling is loose at some ends but not fully. He keeps the momentum going just like we see in a cricket match and maybe that’s the biggest victory for him and his team. With brilliant support from the technical team, he dares to go beyond mainstream aspects and tries to fulfill his hunger of smart filmmaking. Inside Edge 3 would have been weaker without him, so he definitely deserves the maximum credit. Those Human errors can be forgiven as he delivers an absolute paisa vasool show. In a nutshell, it’s a Hat-trick for team Inside Edge! It has everything that was promised and moreover it’s the India vs Pakistan thing, so it’s certainly bigger.
